Hi, I’m Jon.
My journey into cybersecurity hasn't been entirely traditional, and to be completely honest, it started with a simple realization: crawling under houses and lugging heavy appliances around was finally starting to take a serious toll on my body.
Before I transitioned into tech, I spent years working in the blue-collar trades, starting as a commercial painter, moving into commercial and residential plumbing, and eventually becoming a master appliance repair technician. While my back is certainly happier behind a desk now, I wouldn't trade that background for the world.
Working in the trades taught me how to talk to people face-to-face, how to sell, how to de-escalate angry situations when a customer's fridge breaks right before a holiday, and how to keep my cool when the pressure is on. Turns out, troubleshooting in that world, isn't all that different from troubleshooting in the IT world.
For the past three years, I’ve dedicated myself to studying IT and security. Today, I’m proud to be working as a NOC II with the U.S. Air Force on their RVA program, where I get to hone my operational skills every day.
I might be technically new to the cybersecurity world, but I’m incredibly eager to learn and bring a very practical, real-world perspective to the keyboard. My blue-collar past gave me the grit and people skills, and my IT journey is building the technical foundation.
My ultimate goal is to become a cybersecurity expert who helps secure our digital world. This site is a space to document my ongoing journey, share what I’m learning, and connect with good people.
If you want to talk shop, swap stories about transitioning careers, or just chat over a strong cup of coffee, I’d love to connect.
A recent trip to reflection canyon with two of my buddies. I ended up with 4 blisters on both feet… Was a tough trip but worth it.
